The CompTIA Linux+ Powered by LPI certification is a professional specialty certification that covers the installation, management, and overall administration of the Linux operating system. It is the perfect option for industry professionals who are aiming to become junior Linux or network administrator. Because this operating system is common in most major IT companies, it is highly recommended that all individual interested in working exclusively with Linux take and pass the two exams necessary for certification acquisition.
Among the two CompTIA exams, candidates will validate their knowledge of system architecture, with major topics including installation and package management, networking and security fundamentals, data management, system services, and user interfaces. Candidates should be familiar with normative administrative tasks and procedures that lead to the overall maintenance, functionality, and troubleshooting of the network and system architecture. Both exams are very similar in structure, containing 60 multiple choice questions that must be answered in a 90 minute timeframe.
This CompTIA certification can be earned individually or in combination with other certifications – the systems competency track and professional skill level track both include it in their list of suggested certifications to earn. CompTIA is partnered with the Linux Professional Institute, which allows your exam record to be forward right to them. From there, you will be eligible to earn the LPIC-1 certification, as a part of their LPI certification program. Job roles such as web, systems and database administrator are common, in addition to junior Linux administrator as previously mentioned. Experience with Linux is highly recommended before taking either exam; training resources offered by CompTIA are designed with the goal of increasing your conceptual knowledge and building a practical set of skills that can be incorporated into your daily on the job work.
